Ice Skating Day
We are now only a couple of weeks until our ice skating party for our younger members on December the 10th. All of the details are with your club instructors, but if you want to go you will have to have your details with us by Saturday the 3rd December. After this it will be too late to arrange the buffet for the event. Please note that this event is for club members only at a cost of £2, we are sorry that we simply cannot accommodate siblings too. During the buffet we also respectfully ask that there is only one adult per child up in the bar area, as space is limited. Seating is also for those who have been skating and are preparing to eat. In brief, skating starts at 12:45-14:30, with the buffet following on. Any adults wishing to go on the ice can do so by paying the £7.20 fee.
December the 10th is the date for this year's ice skating day for our junior members. The arrangements will be very similar to those of last year, however the timing will be different. For this year we will be taking to the ice at 12:45pm, with our Wado UK only session finishing at 2:30pm. Anyone wishing to stay on longer is welcome to, but at this point the general public will be allowed on also. Perhaps okay for our slightly older members rather than the smaller younger ones.
If you would like further details of this event please just see your club instructors.

Wado Uk Presentation Night
We are also very close to our Wado UK presentation night, which is on Friday December the 16th. This year's event should be one of the best yet, with an additional treat in store which we shall keep to ourselves for now. Tickets are now in short supply so if you do want to go you will need to get yours quickly. The venue will look different this year too, so whether you have attended previously or not, we should all be in for an excellent evening. See you there.

EKF Kyu Grade Championships
You may think it is rather early to start bringing you detail of the January 2017 EKF Kyu Grade Championships. However the 15th of January competition has a closing date of the 29th of December, plus, all entries have to be submitted via Sport Data. I'm sure you will understand why we are keen to broach the subject now.
If you or your child have any intention of competing in Sheffield, I would ask you to let us know immediately. All entries will need to be with us by Wednesday December the 21st so that it does not impact our Christmas holidays. Thank you for your understanding with this.

Federation of European Wadokai Champioships
At the beginning of the month, Steve Balaam-Reed travelled to Belgium with his Chikara club for the Wado Kai European Championships. They returned home with 5 Gold, 4 Silver, and 3 Bronze medals. Details of their medal wins can be seen below.

Gold medals went to Thomas Balaam-Reed in the 16/17 years individual kata, Thomas then pairing up with Lauren Horner in the 14-17 pairs kata secured a second gold, and subsequently went on to finish his hat-trick by  joining forces with Lauren and another squad member in the 14/17 years team kata section.

Further golds were won by Jakub Lutwiejko in his 14/15 individual -63 kilo kumite category, and Steve Balaam-Reed & Tracy Balaam-Reed in the veterans mixed pairs kata category.
The 4 silver medals were shaped by the following results. Lauren 14/15 Years -54 kilo kumite, 14/15 years individual kata & mixed team kumite with Jakub Lutwiejko and Luke McKay. The final silver medal went to Tracy & Steve Balaam-Reed, along with John Stephenson in the team kata.
Finishing things off were the 3 bronze medals for Jakub Lutwiejko in his 14/15 years individual kata, Steve Balaam-Reed in his veteran male Kata, and Tracy Balaam-Reed in her veteran female Kata.

Well done everyone.
Welsh Open Championships
Josh Hartery of the Hull Zanshin Karate Club once again competed in the Welsh Open Karate Championships in Cardiff. This competition is not one we visit too often, but as dad Ian and of course Josh have family there, it seems an obvious choice to combine family and karate activities. On this occasion Josh decided only on the kumite category, narrowing his chances by 50% by not entering the kata also. However it proved to be an inspired decision as he managed to secure himself the gold medal for his efforts. Great effort Josh, well done.

Wado Uk Junior Championships
With the Woodford Leisure Centre undergoing considerable renovation, our Junior Championships for 2017 will have to be held at an alternate venue. For those of you who have been with us long enough, you may remember that we have previously used the Hull University gymnasiums for our competitions. We have contacted them to make initial enquiries, so we will keep you posted on developments. However the date we have in mind is Saturday July the 15th. Of course we need to firm up the venue before this date can be confirmed.

Wado Uk Open Championships
2016 proved a very difficult year as far as our Wado UK Open Championships went. With the difficulties of venue availability in Hull, we have had to spread our wings and explore wider afield. The best option we found was the Richard Dunn Leisure Centre in Bradford. To that end we have booked the venue for the 3rd September 2017, meaning we are now back in business. Of course the logistics will be rather more difficult now we can't simply pop home for anything we have forgotten, but I'm sure with us all pulling together we will have another successful event. I have already had associations expressing their pleasure at us being back on the calendar for next year.
As we move into the New Year we will bring you further details, but if you can add the date to your calendars we will ensure we have enough support to make a success of the competition. No matter what you think you may be able to help with we would be grateful of your input.
